This small collection was purchased by the museum from the United States. It was initially identified by the Distinguished Unit Citation, which has two oak leaves, denoting three awards. With the 8th Air Force patches being present as well and a quick search of the Heritage Foundation personnel roster positively identified the grouping as belonging to Dewey H. Shaffer, a 'radar mechanic' of the 335th Squadron. The radioman specialist patch was further confirmation that this was indeed a 95th grouping.
The grouping comprises;
1. A single dog tag,
2. Three pairs of Sergeant's stripes,
3. A radioman specialist sleeve patch,
4. A British made Army Air Force patch and two British made 8th Air Force patches,
5. A DUC with two oak leaves,
6. Two ribbon bars comprising the Good Conduct Medal and EAME Medal with a single star,
7. Army Air Force branch of service collar dogs,
8. Matching pair of Army Air Force Distinctive Unit Insignia,
9. A Qualification Badge with Radio Operator and Radio Mechanic bars,
10. Small photograph of Dewey,
11. Dewey's Enlisted Man Identification Card,
12. A souvenir print of the Queen Elizabeth, presumably bought on board during his return journey, which he has dated 14 August 1945.
This will be added to the 335th section late in 2021.
